This is pretty interesting

Democracy Now!, an award winning, independently produced hour long
daily news program, has recently begun putting its shows online in
downloadable DVD quality MPEG2 format. I believe that makes it the
first show that appears on traditional TV to make itself available in
equal quality over the Internet as it is on broadcast TV (in the case
DVB satellite).

The hosting is provided by the Internet Archive, which also generates
lower quality VCD and MPEG4 quality files. The show airs at 8am EST, it
usually takes until about 3pm for the show to be uploaded, low quality
versions produced and made available. At this point about 2 weeks worth
of shows have been made available, you can browse through them in their
collection at the Internet Archive.

For those not familar with DN!, it is the premier broadcast news source
for progressives and radicals in the US. The show airs on over 300
public TV, cable access, and radio stations as well as both consumer
satellite networks, DISH and DirecTV.

If you'd like to have the show delivered to your computer everyday, I
wrote a little scraper to produce RSS feeds with encosures for the
MPEG4, VCD, and DVD quality versions of the show. Typical file sizes of
the respective formats are 150MB for MPEG4, 250MB for VCD, and 2.9GB
for DVD. Of course, DN! already has a podcast feed for the audio
version of the show.

Earth to Tivo. Earth to PBS. The future is waiting for you but not for
much longer.
