[Imc-sydney] Meaning of "control" and removing shit

Hello Cam,
Because of my lean computer skill I've been too timid to try out the Wiki
page and too timid to ask for help. I thank you for setting it up for me.
I disagree that I should not have posted that story to begin with.
Lots of IMCs, including ours, apparently (which shocked me), are in trouble
or morphing, so the subject is perfectly legitimate and perhaps even
illuminating.
At http://www.onelook.com/?w=controller there are 47 dictionaries with
English definitions that include the word controller. The first four I
opened up gave me
- somebody who controls or organizes something: somebody in a managing,
supervising, or monitoring position
- one that controls or has power or authority to control
- a person who controls something
- one who regulates or controls.
Isn't that precisely what all of us with editorial power do? I can't with
any stretch of the imagination see any reason to take offence at the word.
Not even with my fairly extensive experience of the behaviour of these
particular controllers could I have "known that it would be provocative and
possibly start a flame war". Yes, I do know that they hate it being
mentioned at all that they have any kind of power - I just can't understand
why.
And yes, I have already happily removed and will continue to remove "the
shit" off the newswire and am much relieved that that's OK at least by you,
having had no response from anyone else.
Regards,
Diet
