Ok, dont worry about doing any manual recategorization of the opinion
category, I think a script should be written to do that. I've used
taxonomy permissions to disallow anyone to put anything in opinion.

I am thinking that the image gallery module should be disabled, as it
forces you to have separate categories just for image nodes. The
categories we have now are duplicates of Topic categories used for
stories (and now video and audio) - police/protest/indymedia. The only
image category that isn't is 'miscellaneous images'.
An advantage of using the topic categories is it allows us, obviously,
to categorize images in the 100 or so topics we have. Also, when you
insert an image in using the tinymce image plugin, it allows you to
browse images in a particular category, so instead of trawling through
miscellaneous images, we can go to a particular category of relevance.
So I've already applied the Topic and Geographic categories to image,
but the galleries are still there... im just making sure it won't damage
anything removing them...
And I've also created a new view to replace the image galleries. I think
it can be improved to sort by category with a bit of work.
