[Imc-oceania] Re German IndyMedia

Just a warning, folks, about the German IndyMedia site. It may be different
now - hopefully! - with foreigners coming in and perhaps using it, but in
the normal day-to-day running of it there seems to be a self-righteous,
know-all group censoring postings. They won't allow you to publicise
upcoming events, for example, nor will they publish a press release. I have
argued with them for years but there's no movement. They have a very myopic,
only grudgingly international approach to what an IndyMedia site should be.
Every piddling little anti-Nazi action somewhere has hugely better chances
of getting published than a call to a worthy event. If you're going to use
them this time, rattle their cage and complain. Maybe this event will wake
them up to what IndyMedia's for. Diet Simon, Noosa, Australia, formerly
Gorleben, Germany.
This is the sanctimonious message you get when you don't play by their
rules, which I see no other IndyMedia site I"ve visited using in any shape
or form (see part translation below):
incl. Terminkalender anzubieten.
Terminen eignet, findest Du hier. Bitte nutze stattdessen die verlinkten
Terminkalender-Seiten.
Despite the wish of the moderator group to use indymedia to publish own
reports and self-researched reportages, here an appontment, a demo call, the
invitation to an event or the announcement of an action was copied in. It is
not the aim of IndyMedia to offer a comprehensive information portal,
including events calendar. IndyMedia wants to be a platform for engaged
media makers and their own contents. The publication of action dates, calls
and invitations is not one of the aims of the project.
