ENGAGEMEDIA.ORG LAUNCH AND WORKSHOP

Come along to the launch of EngageMedia at the Earthling National
Environmental Activist Forum at This Is Not Art in Newcastle, Saturday
30th September 2006.

EngageMedia.org is a website and a network for distributing social
justice and environmental video from South East Asia, Australia and the
Pacific. It is a space for critical documentary, fiction, artistic and
experimental works that challenge the one-way communication model of the
mainstream media.

The growth of digital tools such as peer-to-peer networks,
video-podcasting and broadband mean independent video makers can bypass
the control of big media conglomerates and create their own distribution
networks.

EngageMedia aims to demystify and provide access to these new tools,
create an online archive of Creative Commons licensed videos and form a
peer network of video makers, educators and screening organisations.

On Saturday the 30th of September we'll be holding a workshop for
video-activists to learn how to get their work online. We'll be
screening some of these videos and other content from the EngageMedia
site as part of our launch later that evening.

Earthling Environmental Activist Forum

Earthling is a terra firma gathering for environmental activists who too
rarely get together to talk about "why" and "how" and "if." Sessions
will explore broad ideas about the way we activate, the tools we use,
the way we organise and the biggest challenges facing us all. It is in
Newcastle (Carbon Capital) of NSW, Australia, September 29 to October
1st 2006, as one of a number of festivals making up the annual This Is
Not Art (TINA) festival.
