hi fiona (et al)

from my experience, in one capacity or another, since the early days
of indymedia in '99 there has been a consistent series of characters
orchestrating incidents similar to this throughout the indymedia
network and few if any have been resolved in a constructive manner.

i personally spent far too many hours dealing with mick and the
problems he created for indymedia in the short year i was in
australia (and i recognize many others invested far more than i did)
in 2004 - i'm now back 'home' and amazed that the disruption of this
kind persists in the oceania indy network.. that persistance is our
collective failure.

i believe that, as a network of networks, it's critical we learn to
effectively deal with people (and their destructive behavior) as
similar characters succeed to be disruptive, to greater or lesser
degrees, in many different indymedia communities.. hopefully we will
learn, adapt and evolve so that we are not vulnerable to such in the
future.

your email helps us have a clear and accurate portrayal of the
timeline and series of events that are part of what has brought us to
where we are today - that's critical information that helps us learn
how to better identify and defend ourselves and the network from this
type of disruption.

many thanks and much respect,
-shane
