deal than they ever had before - with the best of the old - the ideals
that 'real men' were courteous and gentle with women, and regarded them
with admiration- and the best of the new, that men treated them as
having equal value and equal opportunities, and did not regard them with
condescension,
Now along with the rise of other hatreds in the world, there is the return
of a great deal of misogyny which had been shrinking to only a few
small sections of society. The 'Battle of the Sexes' which had been
a humorous topic is being taken too seriously. Boys will knock girls
around in public. The Blackshirts are an extreme example, but there
is enough current for them to swim in. Even when other men
think that misogynous generalisations and labels are OK to
publicise, it is a bit worrying.

I think a lot of feminist fussing is irritating, and misandry (or what is the
word) is as bad as misogyny, and 'non-sexist language
manuals' etc go too far, but if people want to be insulting,
let them keep off sexual and sexist language.
