 Dear Indymedia Collective - I am very saddened to hear of the decision that has been taken to shut down Melbourne Indymedia. I am also disapointed to find out that a meeting was held to make this decision that was a closed meeting. I wrote to the collective soon after it was shut down "temporarily" to say that I was interested in being involved in its restarting. That I was a long time contributor known personally to some members of the collective did not make any difference I was rebuffed and kept on the outer of any discussions. Why on earth was the meeting in February a closed one! Its just common sense if the group was low on energy that it should have opened itself up with a public meeting to interested parties. 

Anyway - I am interested in being put in touch with people who would like to continue Melbourne Indymedia which I believe was and could be again a vital forum of analysis and discussion of events and tactics for the left. 
Please forward my phone number - 9755 2007 and email heller_davey at yahoo.com.au to others interested in continuing the project.I would appreciate a reply to this email to let me know if my details have indeed been passed on or if there are others interested in a new Melbourne Indymedia or not. We are however keen to help others take up the challenge of producing an activist based, participatory news site, whether that be a Melbourne Indymedia, an Australia Indymedia or something all together new. We feel such a space is very much needed.


Several Melbourne Indymedia members expressed interest in mentoring such a project. If this interests you please contact us and we'll connect you up with those of like mind. We'll continue to answer the email for the foreseeable future and the site will stay up as a living archive.


Lastly a big thank you to the literally thousands of contributors to Melbourne Indymedia over it's 7 and 1/2 year life, it truly was a unique, and quite successful experiment in participatory news making.
