Hello indymedia crew - sorry to hear that you are feeling so
overwhelmed that you have pulled the plug. As someone who has posted
many reports on actions and issues over the last 6 years (see recent
post on G8 you turned into a feature) I feel that Melbourne Indymedia
is a really important part of the local social justice movement. I
personally have learnt much from the site.
I hope that this is not a permanent state of affairs.
One suggestion - I recently heard about a site about the site
www.digg.com - the Digg news site. It has a system whereby the stories
that make it onto the front page of the site are voted on by users.
Its seem to me that this is a more user centric and democratic
approach than used by most indymedia sites. Check it out. Also shit
articles are naturally filtered out by users rather than having to be
sorted through by a small collective

http://www.digg.com/

Personally I have not been able to get involved in the collective as I
live in Belgrave and city meetings on top of full time work are not
really an option. Do people involved in the collective need to come to
face to face meetings?

Anyway hope to see the sight up and running soon - personally I also
think you shouldnt stress about getting the new site "google
friendly". The level of control that they demand seems to be not
friendly to non-corporate user generated media.

Anyway - good luck and hope to see the site up and running soon.
Davey Heller
