You can visit them at https://melbourne.indymedia.org/plesk-stat/webstat/ Be interested to get people's interpretations of them. The front page seems to get hit close or 5000 times a day but there is also a massive amount of noip hits to the site, random bots etc. Hard to make out exactly what they are trying to tell us apart from the fact that we went through close to 250gig in traffic, mostly due to one video apparently being downloaded 17, 000 times, but that doesn't seem right, or maybe it is. Anyone want to have a go at deciphering? cheers. and. Simple answer .. you don't. I'm Dave btw :) Long answer : the only real way is to get to know who is by watching the list and replies, the nature of email is that it is insecure by default, it's always good form to write emails as tho you are speaking to the unknown. but! (Dave puts on the tin-foil hat) 'they' are watching, 'they' are recording, and if they can't search and manipulate the data right now .. some time in the future they will be able too correlate the world in a flash *ominous baaaa--dooooom crash!* echelon is watching ;) (http://fly.hiwaay.net/~pspoole/echelon.html) seriously tho, nothing on the net is perfectly secure, and you should choose what you say and to whom carefully. Many things 'logged' by the net may not be harmful in and of themselves, but combined and put in a package, or linked to other events and people, can be made to appear like anything someone wants it too. > ive also been investigating the irc chanel.. any suggestions before i > accidently run into un-explored territory? don't trust anyone, don't accept files from anyone, don't do stuff just coz someone says you should, research it... IRC can be very safe if you know a little about it, and there are plenty of sites out there on its safe use. Indymedia IRC has the ability to connect to it via SSL so people can't see what host you are connecting from (adds somewhat to security), and any traffic on a channel where _all_ participants are SSL is secure, chatting between two folk in private message that are both secure .. but if any aren't it's not (as the traffic has to go out to the insecure person, thus a hole). Yeah, it does look quite good. It's still busy but *really* readable. I particularly like the bloody huge "PUBLISH!" button. Although they don't have an indymedia logo anywhere :/
